Survey, Workshop and Publication about Generative AI

Survey, Workshop and Publication about Generative AI

The Value, Use and Copyright Commission of FIAT/IFTA will soon start to work researching the impact of generative AI on the audiovisual archiving sector. This topic is urgent as it impacts the authenticity, integrity, and future accessibility of archival content. Researching this collectively will enable the FIAT-IFTA conference to stay on the forefront of understanding and managing the implications of new technologies.

The first step is a survey about how much experience archive staff and broadcasters have in using generative AI in various use cases and if organisations already have policies on generative AI. We need your help to fill in the survey and we hope to get many answers. You can find the link at the bottom of this post.

We would kindly ask you to forward the survey to people in your organisation, who may also know about the subject. In particular we are interested to hear from colleagues in legal, production departments and from colleagues responsible for policy making.

Your answers are very valuable to the archival community. Please fill in the survey before October 11. We anticipate it will take 15 minutes to complete.

The second step is a workshop about AI and copyright during the FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Bucharest in October 2024. This will be a forum to further discuss how GenAI impacts our work. If you are attending the conference, please join us on Tuesday October 15 at 4:30 pm.

The VUC will compile the findings of the survey and workshop into a publication, as well as examples of AI policies some organisations might already have and are willing to share, and ultimately, we will publish this on the FIAT/IFTA website.

We would like to hear from you, if you have an AI policy in your organisation, please write to the chair of the VUC, Dale Grayson, if you have a policy you would like to share with us: dale.grayson@northboundtv.com

We aim to provide a set of guiding principles for organisations to consider when implementing their own AI strategies when creating, archiving and re-using their content.

Best regards,

The Value Use and Copyright Commission of FIAT/IFTA
