FIAT/IFTA President Virginia Bazán-Gil has extended warm greetings to fellow CCAAA member SEAPAVAA on the occasion of their 30th Annual Conference, taking place 7-13 June 2026 in Ipoh, Malaysia.

This year’s conference theme —Redefining Audiovisual in Archives: Relevancy, Technology and Unity— resonates closely with conversations underway across the international audiovisual archive community, and with the work FIAT/IFTA members are actively engaged in around AI integration, metadata harmonisation, and the evolving role of archives in a rapidly changing media landscape.

In her message, Virginia Bazán-Gil emphasised that archives are not passive observers of technological change, but active participants in shaping the future of media, access, and knowledge. She highlighted the importance of international collaboration — particularly in ensuring that institutions of all sizes and resource levels can meaningfully participate in ongoing digital transformation.

“No institution can address these transformations alone,” Bazán-Gil wrote. “Collaboration, shared expertise and international cooperation are essential if we want archives to remain influential actors within the global media ecosystem.”

FIAT/IFTA and SEAPAVAA share a long-standing commitment to professional exchange and the preservation of audiovisual heritage as members of the Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA).
