The FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2025 took place on October 28–31 in Rome, Italy, welcoming over 300 attendees — our highest number to date! Under the theme Everything is possible and nothing is true?, the 49th edition marked a new milestone for FIAT/IFTA.

The Programme
FIAT/IFTA’s three-day conference had over 60 sessions comprised of presentations and panel discussions. The conference also counted with a pre-conference day, with FIAT/IFTA Commission meetings, workshops, and a welcome cocktail.

After Kristian Porter’s Keynote session, FIAT/IFTA and the Public Media Alliance signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a long-term framework for collaboration, mutual support, and capacity building across the global audiovisual and public media sectors.

The Archive Achievement Awards
The FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards ceremony occurred on the Thursday, October 30th, evening at the Basilica in Cinecittà. During the event, the FIAT/IFTA community celebrated the achievements of our colleagues.
The 2025 award winners were:
The Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 was presented to Theo Mäusli, recognising his outstanding contributions to the world of media archiving.

World Conference 2026
During the Closing Session of the FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2025, Virginia Bazán-Gil announced the host and location of next year’s edition, the first to take place outside Europe in three years.
We are proud to share that the FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2026 will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, with the generous support of our host, Cinemateca Brasileira.
