Strengthening FIAT/IFTA & ASBU Collaboration

FIAT/IFTA is proud to share that our President, Virginia Bazán-Gil, has been appointed as a member of the ASBU Academy Advisory Board for a three-year term.
The Advisory Board, composed of Arab and international experts, meets twice a year. Its mission is to support the ASBU Academy in establishing and updating its training strategy, ensuring that media professionals across the Arab world have access to innovative and high-quality training opportunities.
Founded in 2017 within the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) in Tunis, the ASBU Academy for Media Training has become a key hub for professional development in the audiovisual sector. Recognizing the quick transformations in today’s digital media landscape, the Academy provides Arab radio and television personnel with modern training designed to strengthen technical expertise, program design, and content development.

This new role reinforces the close ties between FIAT/IFTA and ASBU, especially after the FIAT/IFTA & ASBU Seminar on “Radio & TV Archives Digitisation Strategies”, held in Tunis on February 27-29, 2024.
This seminar provided a platform for professionals from both communities to exchange expertise and tackle shared challenges in four key areas: preservation of the archives, accessibility and usage, engagement of decision-makers in strategic planning, and intellectual property rights. The initiative was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of the FIAT/IFTA Value, Use & Copyright Commission, the FIAT/IFTA Preservation and Migration Commission, the ASBU Academy, and Delphine Wibaux (INA), FIAT/IFTA Vice-President and Membership Secretary.
Virginia Bazán-Gil’s appointment is both an honor and an opportunity to further deepen the partnership between FIAT/IFTA and ASBU. FIAT/IFTA looks forward to playing a role in contributing to the future of training strategies in the Arab region.
