In the summer of 2022, Rai launched a survey through FIAT/IFTA channels to know if other AV archives opened their catalogues to the general public on the Web and which strategies were adopted to overcome the difficulties of such an operation.

This paper collects the survey results enriched by two precious case studies from Sound & Vision and BBC. The first one is focused on the platform Zoeken, which gives access to the entire Sound & Vision archive. The second deals with BBC Rewind, a colossal project presented as “the BBC’s largest public release of archive content”.

This paper was made possible by the collaboration of our RAI colleagues Valentina Martone, Daniela Floris, Lucia Falco, and Gabriele Di Matteo.
