The Welcoming Tour

The seminar kicked off with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of BBC Cymru Wales Central Square, which finished at the Welcome Reception. A unique and unforgettable visit of BBC’s dynamic Welsh headquarters.

“Want to see what a modern public broadcaster HQ should look like? Visit BBC Wales. It’s everything: flexible, planted right in the heart of its audience, open, inviting—and not least: stunning to look at. – Brecht Declercq (RSI, FIAT/IFTA Treasurer)

The Inaugural Speech

“(…) Looking back at the papers from this seminar on the FIAT/IFTA website, it’s amazing to see how consistently it has tackled the most innovative topics and asked the most relevant questions, right from the 90s. This seminar has always been a very relevant place to think about new ideas in media archives. (…)” – Virginia Bazán-Gil (RTVE, FIAT/IFTA President)

For newcomers like me, presenting at FIAT/IFTA events is always a challenge. The best part of these experiences is meeting new colleagues and spending a little time with old friends.” – Pilar Auserón Marruedo (ATRESMEDIA)

What’s next?

Recordings of the sessions will be available soon on our YouTube channel—stay tuned!

AI is rapidly becoming an essential tool for archives, opening up new possibilities for content discovery, accessibility, and long-term preservation. But the most important probably is this: everyone agrees that AI tools are not replacing humans, but rather enhance the work of documentarists and archivists. The main challenges are in terms of skills and training, which are further complicated by the accelerating rate of change.” – (State Archives of Belgium)

Humans and AI are partners in archiving. Technology is undoubtedly advancing in many directions, but we still need to continue reflecting on the impact of AI-generated metadata and how to adapt our organizational culture accordingly.” – (RTVE, FIAT/IFTA President)

What new opportunities open up for archives once AI handles most of the heavy lifting? Possibly the most exciting benefit is this: AI might finally allow documentalists to focus on curating archives, unlocking content structurally, and tailoring access to target audiences. Or how the public indirectly benefits from changes in the back-end” – Brecht Declercq (RSI, FIAT/IFTA Treasurer)
