FIAT/IFTA Travel Grant

Meet our former travel grantees!

FIAT/IFTA Travel Grant

One of last year’s FIAT/IFTA Travel Grantees was Cristiane Costa, a Master’s student in the Strategic Management program at PUC-Rio, researching how digital asset management practices can support the preservation of creative processes and production archives in the audiovisual industry. Prior to that, she worked for more than 20 years with knowledge management at Globo.

Cristiane was kind enough to share her experience as a Travel Grantee at the 2025 FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Rome, Italy, where she presented her research, “Beyond the Screen: From Production Design to Broadcast Archives – How Integrated Asset Management Unlocks Strategic Value in Television Archives.”

Participating in this year’s FIAT/IFTA World Conference was, without a doubt, unforgettable!

Over four days inside the iconic Cinecittà studios in Rome, the event brought together more than 300 audiovisual archive professionals, industry leaders, academics, and technology companies from dozens of countries. It was an honor to present to such a qualified audience, the progress of my master’s research and my experience of over 20 years working with knowledge management at TV Globo. Bringing the topic of production design project archives into broader discussions about audiovisual archives was extremely enriching and motivated me to deepen my studies even further.

I am immensely grateful for the grant that enabled my participation in the event, as well as for all the support I received from the moment I applied.

We are living through a period of intense technological and political transformation, in which knowledge exchange and access to quality information have become fundamental to understanding today’s world. This uncertainty shines a light on audiovisual archives and is echoed in the conference’s provocative theme: “Everything is possible and nothing is true?”.

Throughout the conference, I attended interesting discussions in the opening workshop, inspiring presentations, and roundtables, as well as valuable conversations during the breaks. Artificial intelligence was a central topic, especially in discussions about how it is redefining the ways we preserve, classify, access, and even monetize archival collections. Digitization also gained prominence, raising an important question: how much time do we still have to recover the history hidden in physical media?

I made important connections for my research and friends whom I look forward to welcoming here in Brazil in 2026. It will be a pleasure to showcase the richness of our archives and the beauty of Brazilian culture to the FIAT/IFTA community.
