The VIEW Journal of European Television History and Culture invites submissions for a special issue titled “With and Against the Grain: New Creative Dialogues with Broadcast Archives.” This issue seeks contributions from media scholars, archivists, and practitioners that engage with broadcast archives in innovative and imaginative ways.

The focus is on creative approaches that go beyond traditional methods, uncovering marginalised narratives, addressing archival biases, and experimenting with new ways to write television history. Contributions can range from practice-based research to experimental writing and audiovisual essays, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and creative engagement.

We welcome proposals for academic articles (3,000–6,000 words), audiovisual essays, or other creative formats. Submissions that challenge conventional approaches to historical research and offer fresh perspectives on broadcast archives are particularly encouraged.
