New Executive Council Members

FIAT/IFTA gives a warm welcome to our new EC members.
Karin van Arkel
Here’s a short introduction to a new -very proud- co-opted member of the EC. My name is Karin van Arkel, working at The Netherlands Institute of Sound and Vision. First I worked as an ingest coordinator, but for 3 years as the Archive manager, where we’re responsible for the ingest, acces, selection and digitisation of the content. Not only do we archive material from the public broadcasters, but also commercial and non-commercial content from other (heritage) organisations and individuals. The EC is not new to me, I participated in many world congresses of the FIAT/IFTA and for a few years I’ve been a member of the MMC commission where I also have co-organised the 2-yearly MMC seminars.
I’m looking forward to being a member of the EC and working together with all the others in this worldwide network. The enthusiasm and willingness to share all the knowledge and lessons learned of archivists all over the world makes me even want more to be an active member of this network.
Hopefully we will see eachother live anytime soon, and meanwhile we’ll do what we can online.
Best,
Karin van Arkel

It is with great honor that I join the EC representing the Media Management Commission (MMC). Recently serving as Commission Co-Chair, as well as being a long standing member of the MMC, I welcome the opportunity to continue building on the many years of thought-provoking, timely work the Commission and FIAT/IFTA as a whole has done. We often say we stand at crossroads/pivotal moments in broadcasting history, and the global pandemic is indeed one that presented, and continues to present, unique challenges creating disruption in the industry. Innovative ways to catalogue, access, monetize and distribute our archives is once again making us rethink the model. It is also a continued reminder to look around and remember that there are many in need of help to save their endangered audiovisual collections. FIAT/IFTA will continue to influence the industry with impactful, meaningful change which I very much look forward to continue being a part of.
