Recap: day one of the World Conference in Mexico City
After the opening reception on Wednesday eve the FIAT/IFTA World Conference continued on Thursday with a series of interesting keynotes, presentations, parallel sessions and workshops. After the official welcome by the conference hosts and FIAT/IFTA president Bríd Dooley, a thought-provoking opening keynote speech was delivered by Fernando Osorio Alarcon. Next the audience got the chance to get inspired by the marvellous success story of the documentary “The Beatles – Eight Days a Week” by Matthew White and his team. A pragmatic and practical approach to copyright awareness by B&G’s Maartje Hülsenbeck concluded the plenary morning session.
Parallel sessions in the afternoon lead the attention of the audience to automated metadata creation and enrichment, semantics, digital preservation, curation, skill-sharing etc. A special session also focused on the challenges of audiovisual archiving in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.
On Friday the day is opened by a Newcomer’s Breakfast at the splendid Palacio de Bellas Artes. After another full day of presentations and more interactive sessions, all participants will head for the Interactive Museum of Economy, where this year’s Gala Dinner will take place, together with the official announcement of the winners of the prestigious FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards.
