Update for all delegates to Mexico City
The FIAT/IFTA World Conference goes on …
Everything is on track for our conference in Mexico City next month.
The main venue, the Tlatelolco Conference Centre hasn’t suffered any damage (you will understand why not when you’ll see it – the sturdiness of the building is remarkable).
The 300 years old Fonoteca Nacional, is still standing; however Civil Security has recommended that it is better not to hold any public events there until a complete security check is undertaken. Therefore we have moved all the events to the Tlatelolco Conference Centre. The only exception is the Archive Achievement Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner which will take place, as planned, at the MIDE (Interactive Museum of Economy) in the historical quarter of Mexico City. All modern buildings in Mexico are built in to very stringent construction standards; those houses and buildings which were destroyed were built before these standards were introduced.
The conference hotels Barcelo, Fontan, Fiesta Inn and One, have not suffered any damage and it has been business as usual for them since the earthquake. There are still rooms available in all the hotels, reserved for FIAT/IFTA delegates. There have been some difficulties with hotel registration codes, more information about them will be sent tomorrow.
It has been a terrible event, but the Mexican people are recovering and starting to build their city again. We would like to thank all our members and followers who have sent messages of sympathy and friendship, we have conveyed them to the Fonoteca Nacional.
So, the Conference goes on, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Daniel Teruggi
General Secretary of FIAT/IFTA
