Earthquake in Mexico City
We are all saddened and shocked to hear of the earthquake that struck in Mexico City yesterday and we commend the city for its preparedness and resilience, about which we are hearing and seeing in news reports. We extend our deepest sympathy to the city and to our hosts for all those lost or injured. The city had its annual earthquake drill one hour beforehand and it was clearly well prepared when the earthquake struck.
With stringent regulations in place buildings are reinforced to withstand the force and the city reacts quickly to minimise damage and impact. However, it was a significant earthquake and the city and its people are of course in shock, but we can tell you that news from our hosts is that they are all safe and well and the conference buildings and facilities are unaffected. There are interruptions to internet services so you may not be able to reach the conference website. However, while matters are still unfolding in the aftermath, we would like to reassure you that we will keep you updated as our hosts inform us of the latest developments.
