Conference day 2 – FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2016
FIAT/IFTA newbies got up early for the FIAT/IFTA newcomers’ breakfast. They were introduced to the FIAT/IFTA organisation by Brecht Declercq.
Then, several nominees for the FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards participated in the session ‘Shaping our memory-looking back and ahead’, building the suspense towards the Archive Achievement Awards Gala even more!
After the coffee break our important and highly appreciated partner Memnon presented themselves. Picturae explained during the interview why they decided to become a partner of FIAT/IFTA. Michal Merczyński took the stand with his presentation on ‘The Libraries of XXI century’.
After the tasty lunch, the newly introduced format “Expert Tables” were held and well attended.
Groups of different sizes had great discussion regarding subjects as ‘Funding models for legacy
archives’, ‘New target groups, new opportunities’ and the ‘Young archivists’ table’
The plenary session, with presentations of NISV, SVT and Ina concluded the second day at the Copernicus Science Centre.
At 19.30 all the participants where welcomed to the magnificent Studio Theatre at the Palace of Culture and Science for the FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards Gala Dinner, made possible by our partner, Memnon. Enjoying Polish cuisine, the Award winners were announced.
- Best Archive Preservation Project: “Unlocking Film Heritage” – British Film Institute
- Most Innovative Use of Archive: “Dementia – Reminiscence for Seniors” – NHK
- Best Use of Archive: “Bambini nel Temo” – RAI Teche
Mr. Steve Bryant received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” being an outstanding pillar in FIAT/IFTA’s history. As an archivist, first at the BBC and then at the British Film Institute, he has been one of the strong promoters of television archiving in the UK.
Our former president, Jan Müller, thanked our host NInA and stressed the creative power that NInA has built over the last years. Their unique position in Poland’s modern culture should be cherished. Then he handed over his presidency to the new FIAT/IFTA President Bríd Dooley who thanked Jan for the great job he had done a president of FIAT/IFTA.
