At the behest of the Belgian minister of Science Policy Thomas Dermine, the Belgian government has appointed Xavier Jacques-Jourion as the National Archivist of Belgium.

For over a decade, Xavier Jacques-Jourion has been a prominent figure within FIAT/IFTA, serving as both a member and Chair (2017) of the Media Management Commission. His involvement with FIAT/IFTA began during his tenure as director of archives at the French-speaking Belgian public broadcaster RTBF. In 2018, he assumed responsibility in the radio policy domain at the regulator of the French-speaking Belgian media market, CSA. In this capacity, he maintained an individual FIAT/IFTA membership and continued to be an active author, moderator, presenter, and co-organizer of MMC seminars. Concurrently, he embarked on doctoral studies in Business Administration at the Vlerick School of Management.

On behalf of FIAT/IFTA, President Brecht Declercq extends congratulations to Xavier Jacques-Jourion on his appointment:

“Throughout his career, Xavier has exhibited remarkable dedication to comprehending and fortifying organizations from within. He combines excellent management skills with an in-depth understanding, experience and passion for the archive world. His appointment as the director of the Belgian State Archives is a testament to his capabilities and fortifies the bond between media archives and national archives. We wish Xavier every success in his new role.”
