The 2018 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage takes place on 27 October. FIAT/IFTA is an active member of the Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA), who organises the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.
The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage has become a key initiative for both UNESCO and the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA) to honour audiovisual preservation professionals and institutions that help to safeguard this heritage for future generations despite the many technical, political, social, financial, and other factors that threaten its survival. Audiovisual archives around the world celebrate their work with activities and events that not only highlight the vulnerability of this heritage, but also celebrate the often unheralded work of the heritage institutions that protect it. Many audiovisual archives have listed their activities for this special day on the CCAAA website.
This year the theme of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is “Your Story is Moving”. To demonstrate the broadness of the coverage of its member’s archival collections, FIAT/IFTA compiled a special clip featuring archival footage from eight member archives. It shows footage from people on the move, travelers, wanderers and explorers, but also refugees. With this clip FIAT/IFTA wants to stress the wealth of moving image and especially television collections when it comes to documenting the world’s events as well as long term evolutions. These images are collected not only via broadcaster’s archives, but by all those who are traveling, whose story is moving.
We thank the archives who graciously contributed with their footage:
We also thank Maria Drabczyk (FINA) for the coordination of the compilation work.
