Welcome to the The FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2018!
With more than 260 registered participants and 85 speakers we are pleased to announce the beginning of this year’s FIAT/IFTA World Conference. Welcome to Venice! We hope you will use the time to indulge yourselves in this year’s conference theme and title “The Archive’s Renaissance: Navigating the Future, Channelling the Past”. Rich, inspiring and diversified programme is at your feet, as always, giving you an opportunity to create your own conference path and explore the topics – from AI to curatorial work on challenging heritage.
Today – the pre-conference day was, traditionally, a day of welcoming and meeting in smaller working groups. In the morning the FIAT/IFTA Executive Council met in a closed session, followed by the four Commissions’ meeting in the afternoon, including an inaugural meeting of the new Value, Use and Copyright Commission. Later on all conference delegates were invited to join one of the four workshops, each focusing on a different aspect of the archival work.
Thanks to an exquisite work of the conference host – RAI, we will get to spend the next days in Palazzo Labia, a breathtaking main conference venue, a mesmerizing baroque palace in the Venice city centre built in the 17th and 18th century.
The conference will officially kick off tomorrow but already now please accept our warm welcome. We wish you all fruitful discussions and inspiring meetings in the coming days!
Benvenuto a Venezia!
